The drone is lying on the grass, propellers in place. Three contractors stare at it as if it were explaining its fault. One turns the controller if it happens to help. Another calls the manufacturer, but no one answers on Friday. The third shrugs his shoulders. The user manual is still in its plastic wrap in the trunk. New technology in agriculture always looks easy in a demo, but this is the moment when it is really tested. <\/p>\n\n

On another farm, another story, a different moment: it’s three o’clock in the morning. The milking robot sounds the alarm, and the farmer drags himself into the barn half asleep. The screen reads an error code that he hasn’t seen before. He googles the code on his phone in a dark barn, finds a foreign forum, and tries to interpret the English answer tiredly. <\/p>\n\n

Two different devices, two different moments, the same basic problem: new technology in agriculture will not solve itself, no matter how expensive and smart it is.<\/p>\n\n

New technology in agriculture to be highlighted at the fair<\/h2>\n\n

In the programme of the Agricultural Machinery Fair<\/strong><\/a>, the focus shifts strongly to the future: artificial intelligence, robotics and intelligent machines are discussed, and one of the main themes of the entire event is directly named the utilisation of artificial intelligence. The programme also asks directly about the role of drones: a tool or a reformer of the entire work process? The question would be equally suitable for a milking robot, sensors or any other device that promises to make everyday life easier. <\/p>\n\n

It’s easy to make an investment decision in bright light at the stand, the salesperson is smiling and everything seems simple. However, commissioning is only tested when something goes wrong, usually at the wrong time and in the wrong place, in the field or in the barn, never in the office at eleven o’clock in the morning. <\/p>\n\n

A quarter of downtime is due to a lack of expertise, not equipment<\/h2>\n\n

In industry, 23 percent of unplanned downtime is due to a lack of skills and operating errors, not equipment failure. The more complex the equipment, the more important it is that the operator knows how to do the right thing right from the start. At night or in the middle of a busy harvest, this risk seems even greater when no one is immediately available to help. <\/p>\n\n

New technology in agriculture needs guidance<\/h2>\n\n

On the CompetenceX<\/strong><\/a> platform, the machine’s error codes and operating instructions can be found directly from the device’s own QR code<\/strong><\/a>, in Finnish or in any other necessary language, on the exact device being used. There is no need to guess what someone on the other side of the world meant by their forum message, nor wait for the next business day to get an answer from the service company. The same applies to a drone, milking robot or any other device: the guidance travels with the machine, not in a separate folder in the trunk of the car or on the office shelf. <\/p>\n\n

Many manufacturers recognize the same situation: there is a huge amount of information about new technology in the house, but it never ends up where it is really needed, at that very moment.<\/p>\n\n

The same principle scales to any device<\/h2>\n\n

The same model is already in use, for example, in cold chain certification in three different countries, multilingually, on the same platform. The more expensive and complex the device, the less you can afford to leave its use to guesswork, whether it is a milking robot in Finland or refrigerated transport on the other side of the world. <\/p>\n\n
