Leading people alongside technical expertise – Mobie and Academy of Brain to collaborate

Mobie Oy has started a strategic collaboration with the international training company Academy of Brain. Managing people in the age of artificial intelligence is now part of the CompetenceX platform’s offering. The collaboration brings research-based training on leadership, interaction and collaboration to the platform. In addition to Mobie’s extensive experience in industrial education, an even more diverse offering of working life skills is thus being built.

In industry, expertise is reflected in concrete things: correctly performed installation, safe lifting and an uninterrupted cold chain. These tasks are based on information that must be transferred from experienced professionals to new workers and from training to practical work.

Transforming this knowledge into training has long been at the core of Mobie’s work. Over the years, the company has produced more than a thousand training materials for the needs of industry and safety-critical tasks. Experience in demanding operating environments also forms the basis for CompetenceX, which brings together Mobie’s learning technology, content production and the expertise of its training partners under the same brand.

The collaboration with the Academy of Brain continues this work from a new direction. In addition to technical expertise, training will be introduced to help people work together, lead change and cope with the stress of working life.

“The collaboration brings clear added value to our customers as the range of high-quality training content available through CompetenceX expands. The Academy of Brain’s strong expertise in the development of psychological working life skills and its extensive research-based training offering complement our learning environment. Together, we help organizations develop the practical skills that the
personnel need in the changing world of work,” says Jukka Sormunen, Director of Research, Development and Innovation at Mobie Oy.

Leading people in the age of artificial intelligence requires face-to-face encounters

For Mobie, the starting point for cooperation is practical. The introduction of new technology is not just about renewing systems and work instructions. It also changes people’s work, responsibilities and expectations. The supervisor must be able to listen, justify solutions and engage in discussion even when there are not yet ready answers to all questions.

In the fast-paced work, which is increasingly supported by artificial intelligence, Mobie emphasises human in the loop thinking: humans must remain involved in assessment and decision-making. It must be possible to critically examine the information produced by artificial intelligence, question its suggestions and intervene when necessary. In addition to technical understanding, this requires a work community that dares to raise questions and concerns.

That is why Mobie considers face-to-face encounters and human-centered human resource management to be an important part of technological change. Giving feedback, dealing with uncertainty and building trust need time for discussion. The purpose of digital training is to support these encounters, not to replace them.

The Academy of Brain’s research-based offering responds to this need. The training, which is based on neuroscience, psychology and research into the functioning of organisations, deals with topics such as leadership, interaction, cooperation and psychological safety. Adaptation to change, decision-making and stress management are also included.

From short learning content to joint discussion

In the Academy of Brain’s learning model, short digital content is combined with personal reflection, discussion with colleagues and applying what has been learned at work. For example, the training can give the team a common starting point to discuss feedback or how to act in stressful situations at the workplace.

For the CompetenceX customer, this opens up an opportunity to combine vocational training and the development of the work community. In connection with the introduction of new technology, both introductory training and change management can be combined. Technical induction, on the other hand, can be supplemented with cooperation and communication skills.

“The combined expertise of Mobie and the Academy of Brain helps forward-thinking organizations to put what they have learned into practice. At the same time, we strengthen the human capabilities that technology alone cannot replace,” says Scott P. McKenzie, Director of International Partnerships at the Academy of Brain.

Extensive industry experience leads to new areas of expertise

CompetenceX’s training offering has been built in environments where competence must be verifiable. The platform is used to implement, for example, training in Klinger’s flange joint installations, Cranop’s lifting work and Mining Finland’s mining industry.

Mobie’s collaboration with Coldest Chain brings the same expertise to international logistics. CompetenceX supports the implementation of a cold chain transport system in Colombia, Mexico and Spain with a common, multilingual training and certification model.

Academy of Brain complements this partner network with expertise that affects both employees and management, regardless of the industry. Through the collaboration, Mobie also joins the Academy of Brain’s Alliance Market Program partner program.

For Mobie, the development of CompetenceX is about continuing the same work: transforming expert knowledge into expertise that can be used in workplaces. In industry, it can mean a safe installation. In managerial work, it can be seen as a discussion where a difficult issue can be dealt with and cooperation continues.
